Thank you for this post, @vgr ! Have you read the “Good to Great” by Jim Collins? It agrees with a lot of you say in the article and is based on years of through research. The book arrived at the concept of (self-less/mission focused) leadership as one of the key ingredients to decades of lasting success.

Yes, very familiar with it and built to last sequel, but I suspect you’re noting some very loose rhyming not close agreement. Mission-centric is a very broad term and these two are in opposite corners of that design space.

Thank you! I misunderstood. The scales and the focus are indeed very different. BDFx is short-term, problem-focused: the result is a (technical) milestone. Level 5 is long-term, capability-focused: the result is the organization (people, principles, & culture) capable of self-sustained mission pursuit.
