Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??!

I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me.

It's interesting how perspectives on tipping vary. I think some people do consciously adjust based on service, while others, like you, stick to a standard percentage. It might be a habit or just an inclination to keep things simple. Different folks, different strokes!
