Reminder: modern cars are highly networked computers and are a privacy nightmare. Very under-explored sector for privacy improvements. Some "fancy ZK" but also some plain boring "collect and track less stuff please". https://rb.gy/qnkfsm

A friend who works for Telsa (autopilot) told me had months of "trip data" / location traces on his laptop > "Just from people driving around?" > "Yeah, from the fleet" I drive a stickshift bronco now

Definitely agree here! Not to mention that they also can record GMS data.

Since I learned about ZK, my wife is tired of hearing 'ZK fixes this'

DIMO has 35,000+ networked cars added to the EVM with a very purist zk, did/vc, decentralized data storage roadmap. Building the answer to this exact problem

Similar to what some of my security-focused grad school colleagues did back in 2010 and shook the automotive industry https://cns.ucsd.edu/experimental-security-analysis-of-a-modern-automobile/

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance cemented in my brain the value of low-ish tech vehicles. When the zombie menace comes, a simple motorbike will save your life. No wifi, hacks, or tracking.

I worked as an automotive tech for 12 years, and never even thought about this. Never seen anything quite this "intimate" in my service years, but the newer cars are basically iPhones on wheels so nowadays it wouldn't surprise me if the collected as much data as they could, even if it's just for marketing studies.

Very interesting! I published a note in the law review during law school all about the failure of privacy laws to protect data collected by connected cars. Published 7 years ago and the lack of improvement is terrifying.

There is a blatant assumption of these corporations that they can view you as cattle to be harvested for information of any worth including your breeding habits & genetic information. Why do they have these assumptions. What enables this?
