I've become more appreciative of crypto conference culture. Its value add is: it gives the benefits of cross-org in-person person coordination, serendipitous connections, weak ties, etc, without everyone being gravitationally pulled into NYC and SF. It's maybe the only institution to have successfully done this.

They’re unmatchable for developing a sense of the “Layer 0” behind the projects — the people building. ~50% of who we compose w have been influenced by IRL confs. ^This number is diminishing with the high signal connections developed on Farcaster — which I think of as a virtual, ongoing ETH conf.

I love conferences for this reason too. Social, productivity, inspiration. But there is a significant amount of unrealized value from the speakers. Hundreds just sitting, listening, consuming, when they could be participating. We need more ways to interact with the content.

It’s really nice to have the rest of the world be as close to first class citizens in the ecosystem as possible. Devcon Colombia was incredible for this. I had no idea there was so much eth talent out there, but didn’t have another way to meet them.

I do agree. I’m currently working with the ETH Chicago team and my main focus is bridging the gaps in the different Web3 communities along with providing positive experiences for new enthusiasts. Our community here has grown and I look forward to the future.
