I’m becoming more and more concerned about my privacy, especially after moving to Germany and starting using web3 social networks In Germany, it still feels strange to see my full name displayed on my apartment door. It might not be a problem if I had a German name, but I don't. Because of this, I'm trying to not post photos around my area - anyone could easily find my building just by checking the doorbells. Also, nearly every service here in Germany - like massage, or hairdressers - asks for personal info such as address and phone. And given how these services are made and how often data leaks happen, I give incorrect data everywhere. And with Farcaster, I’m now sharing some financial activity tied to my identity. It’s made me much more careful about which wallets I expose to avoid revealing sensitive transactions like travel payments - something I hadn’t really think a lot before Farcaster.

Is it by law to have your full name displayed?

that's how it works in Germany - no apartment numbers, but family names everywhere instead 🤷♀️

I spent over 25 years in Germany and even don't bother with it. There are well house numbers. But you have a mandatory residency address register. So anyone can look it up. And the Gelbe Seiten too if they still exist. And the mandatory Impressum on any webpage you own. 😁 lovely

Didn’t know anyone could just look it up - that’s even scarier 🫠 How can that not bother people? I’ve heard of robbery cases over much smaller things, but imagine if anyone can find your address, identity, and then piece together your profession and possible earnings from the internet. Someone in IT or crypto could easily look like a good target.

You get faster abused on an open street those days than in your home. I mean the open street crime rate went to the moon. Targeted incidents are rare. I know only about one and that's only someone who had business in his house. Domestic is a higher risk I would say.
