Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. The city was founded in the 7th century. Dhaka is the capital of the historical state of Bengal (1608-1717) and the capital of Bangladesh since 1971. It is located in the Ganges and Brahmaputra delta, on the left bank of the Buriganga, near the confluence of the Padma and Meghna rivers. It is a river port as well as a center of water tourism.
