Kanpur is one of the most populated cities of India in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located on the Ganges River south of Lucknow. An important center of engineering, textile, electronic, metallurgical and chemical industries. It occupies an area of about 1000 km², population - 2.92 million inhabitants (as of 2011). The city is home to several dozens of diversified universities.
