Jaipur is the largest city and capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Jaipur, called the “Pink City” because of the unusual pink color of the stone used in construction, was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Dhundhara Sawai Jai Singh II (reigned 1699-1743) as the new capital of the state.
