Varanasi is the main city of the region of the same name in northeastern India (Uttar Pradesh), a city of the same importance for Hindus as Rome is for Catholics, the center of Brahmanical scholarship. It is considered a sacred city for Buddhists and Jainists, the most revered place of Hinduism in the world (as the center of the Earth in Hindu cosmology). One of the oldest cities in the world and possibly the oldest in India. Known for its vegetarian cuisine .
