Medina, officially Radiant Medina, is a city in the historic Hijaz region of western Saudi Arabia. It is the administrative center of the Medina District. Its current population is 1,152,991 (2017 estimate). Medina was formerly called Yasrib, but after the Prophet Muhammad and his companions migrated from Mecca in 622, it became known as Al-Madinah al-Nabawiyya.
