Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan. In ancient times it was called Rabbat Ammon (or Rabbah), in the Hellenistic-Roman era - Philadelphia. In VII-IX centuries it was a part of the Arab Caliphate. From 1516 until the end of World War I it was part of the Ottoman Empire.
