This obscure historical vignette being the CNN headline on July 4th, right after Modi visit makes me 🧐 🧐 Are non-Indians in the US seeing this headline or am I seeing a personalized top story? I consider myself well-read on Indian history and this was obscure even for me.

My theory: consciously political attempt to violate the very parochial-mythologized nationalist/MAGA account of the revolutionary war and install a more globalized account. Not that I object. (This is not the only connection… US/India history of the 1700s is thoroughly entangled via British colonialism)

For eg. Cornwallis became governor general of India after the Siege of Yorktown (by way of Ireland stint) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Cornwallis,_1st_Marquess_Cornwallis

Algorithmic pandering based on tracking cookies is like the opposite of news though. A few days ago I was wonder why I wasn’t seeing anything about France. I guess I have to change my name to Pierre and occassionally check out Le Monde to be served French news by CNN
