What do people think of the idea that Farcaster might be *too polite*? Like, people love to rail against the toxicity of twitter, but ultimately it's a PvP MMORPG and lots of people really enjoy the PvP - if not participating, then at least seeing some fireworks in the background...

I think the politeness is a side effect of there not bring significant conflict fault-lines, which in turn is due to the crypto-positive self-selection filter. Correlates with a lot else.

Sure but crypto has a lot of fault lines! Or is there a selection filter that's even narrower than crypto as a whole?

The fault lines are less severe and yes it’s even narrower. It’s eth-positive and nft-positive too. So you mostly eliminate the btc-eth tribal divide and the pro/anti nft artist divide. Plus somewhat conflict averse people. All the strongly anti-elon culture warriors went to mastodon. This is elon-neutral land.

In fact this place reminds me of how SV felt before around 2011. Same vaguely polyannish avoidance of difficult conversations. Except I think it’s self-aware avoidance rather than obliviousness.
