Maybe it’s the week in Istanbul and reading about early Christian history and the transition from fringe cult to state religion to world force at the ground zero where it all played out, surrounded by the remains of the history… but I’m reading the AI events in a very particular way.

I’ve visited Rome twice but now having been to Istanbul, it feels like a Rome-centric view of Western history is as wrong as a western-allies view of WW2 that elides the dominant soviet role in the fighting of the war (if not the financing and technological arming).

Not just Eastern European history, but *all* of European history is more strongly driven by the Eastern Orthodox church history that played out in Constantinople than the Western/Catholic history. At least until the reformation.
