Thinking about a tension: “motivated effectuation.” Motivation works backwards from the constraints of a goal, effectuation works forwards from the possibilities of a current state. Motivation fails vertically leading to overly horizontal, unconscious, protocolized behaviors — aimless least-resistance effectuation. Apathetic bureaucracy. Effectuation fails horizontally leading to overly vertical, hyperconscious, bespoke behaviors. Mindless iconoclasm.
