*requisite variety* A system can only respond to complexity it can match or exceed. To regulate or adapt to its environment, a system must possess at least as much variety as that environment presents. Design systems with sufficient diversity to handle the many possible states they might encounter.

Are all these terms from the "glossary of systems" being collected into a document or knowledge base somewhere? If so, I want to bookmark it for future reference.

Diversity in the system, diversity in the outcomes. This makes me think of something I was just teaching a team about how do design their events programming for greater diversity. If you give the same kind of event every time (happy hour plus a presentation) you please the same group people who have generic tastes.
