This is the study thats referenced: https://www.jci.org/articles/view/170682 Your article (especially the headline) is misleading. The study linked does not claim that ventilators killed COVID-19 patients. Instead, it identifies secondary pneumonia, not ventilators themselves, as a significant cause of death in ICU patients with COVID-19. The study used machine learning to reveal that unresolved secondary infections, common in mechanically ventilated patients, were associated with higher mortality. While secondary pneumonia is a significant cause of death in ventilated COVID-19 patients, the root cause remains COVID-19, as the virus creates the conditions for these complications to arise. Essentially, the viral damage sets off a chain reaction where patients can’t clear secondary infections effectively, resulting in higher mortality.
