I mean it probably is too late to implement some sort harberger tax or demand based pricing system for ENS, maybe years ago when Vitalik.eth suggested it wasn't

but now ENS has been saying to extend your name for 100 years 'if you really wanna own it'. And its not possible to increase the yearly fee after it has been paid right?

So the longer is waited with such a change, the less names will be influenced by such a new pricing system

You don't have to extend for 100 years if you "realy want to own it", I extended validator.eth @ $5/yr until I'm 100 just because Im happy with that price. You can renew it once a year or any interval you want, but then you would have to constantly monitor the DAO forum to see if any pricing changes are being proposed.

If any proposed price changes get passed by a majority vote, then you would still have time to lock up any names for any length at the current price. The price could also be voted to be reduced in the future, so maybe I overpayed just so I didn't have to worry about forgetting to renew. 🤷‍♂️
