I suspect v1 will take the shape of a singleton, open-source server run by us that anyone can integrate with, with some kind of user authentication model.  

The main goal for this phase is interoperability so that other clients can offer direct messaging to their users. 

But it is still early in the design phase and a lot can change.

This is awesome! Will it be based on @cassie’s proposal (FIP99)? If not mostly curious how you handle GC and metadata protection with the hub model.

Amazing. Stoked for this half of the protocol. A credibly neutral social graph with a gradient from private encrypted to public plain text doesn’t exist yet and should be the table stakes.
