I think @dwr.eth is right about why people are exiting ๐, but wrong about why they are choosing BSky over Mastodon, Nostr or Farcaster. The public is starting to see BSky as the "free speech" version of ๐ where: "any site can remove content but nobody can truly censor any voice who wants to be heard as they can easily move among servers at ease and retain their followers." * * this quoted text is from a tweet i'll drop in the comments and what normies refer to as "decentralized" It's not about the technical reality that DNS or did:PLC is not as censorship resistant as ENS or Farcaster FIDs. It's about the perception that it is "sufficiently decentralized". And just as important, it is viewed as an open platform because everything is open source.

"because everything is open source" client open sourcing is performative, full backend open sourcing is true commitment. that's when you know if algos have any biases or weights. we don't do it because its likely that spammers can reverse engineer our heuristics and make the app a lot worse for good users. bluesky doesn't do it either, probably for similar reasons.

Bluesky do give users choice to chose their feed providers (+50k feeds built activating a whole new audience that was passive) and moderation providers too though. In that sense open sourcing the main client is true commitment too.
