Elon Musk is reducing carbon emissions and reducing vehicle crashes. Mood affiliation haters in shambles.

Why are tesla vehicles not using auto pilot less likely to crash? Better drivers or better cars?

I believe Collision Avoidance is separate than Autopilot and is just on by default (so protecting you across more miles than most cars) https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_us/GUID-8EA7EF10-7D27-42AC-A31A-96BCE5BC0A85.html

They have the best collision detection software even when not on auto pilot.

probably just because they tend to be a certain age. older than the 'shitty driver phase' and not in 'too old to drive' phase yet. when you look at those sort of data sets stuff like this really makes a big impact on the result.

gotta say, their reputation is the opposite. Seen more tesla drivers almost hit pedestrians than BMW drivers at this point

I'm going to posit that Teslas are mostly driven in affluent areas with lower car density and therefore less likelihood of getting into an accident.

We typically stay away from them, they're the modern day "BMW drivers"

Tesla is a pretty new brand, and I imagine old cars play a big part in the american average. I'd guess premium brand collision avoidance isnt far off (not sure tesla leads but that makes sense) The thing that caught my eye with tesla when working at Mercedes was the branding of autopilot, semi autonomous piloting through construction zones already existed but it was called β€œdistronic plus with steering lane assist”

The type of person likely to own a Tesla may have a common trait Linking them to be better drivers? Oh wait... It is not known if or to what extent...Tesla drivers are less likely to be involved in an accident etc etc.

The average includes all vehicles that pre date collision warnings and auto braking, where as 100% of Tesla's are in that category

there are a couple other features that certainly help, ie. emergency braking and lane assist probably some correlation with driving ability and price of car too

Wait doesn’t it show that auto pilot is much safer? Also, the number of cars that produced the statistics might be too low still to make conclusions
