My husband wants to get rid of the cat because he damage our furniture. How could be so heartless. 🥲

Declawing (surgery that cuts off the claws) is harmful. Taking the cat to a groomer that will cut its claws is not harmful for the cat. You can do it yourself at home if the cat is calm enough, but you need to read/watch videos about how to do it without hurting the animal. Getting a consultation from a cat psychologist also may help.
