nobody beats Donald Fagen for obscure, cryptic lyrics and immaculate production. if you want to hear how good “pop” music used to sound, listen to this album or The Nightfly. the latter was one of the very first fully digital albums yet sounds so similar (in a good way) to the fully analogue Steely Dan albums that came before it. we’ve definitely lost some of the arcane knowledge these recording engineers possessed.
