Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what AI means for my/everyone’s career. I really don’t think “good at programming (or any single specific domain)” has a viable end. I think I’ll be fine cause I like to think that I can tie multiple domains together in a way that is more valuable than what AI would generate, but it’s still pretty scary. If I was entry level, I’d be spiraling 🫠 I’m so curious to see how knowledge works evolves given how quickly this stuff is moving.

I feel the spiral too, as a senior, even if it’s a few years away. GitHub Copilot has definitely sped up my progress. If we extend the current trend out, we’d likely first have autonomous agents that would handle scaffolding code given business logic. So many of the business logic schemes that I’ve coded are incredibly complex and nuanced, but will prob be abstracted into models eventually. When the models are finally able to map business scenarios to business logic and business logic to code, what will programmers be doing then?
