Yes. I think it also has to do with one's exposure to the world and diversity of aesthetics. Those with broader experience + more opportunities are able to hone their taste in a way that others are not. I think developing taste also requires leisure, to some extent, plus curiosity + willingness to learn & discover.

What if I pushed back on that with the paradox of choice and happiness in simplicity? I've met many very traveled people with opportunity galore who have zero idea of what they like and even worse taste. And they are not outliers.

Yeah, I agree, interest/curiosisity is an important aspect. If one is interested in cultivating one´s taste at all.
