Yes, you need to lock your degen in the vault. The minimum is 10k, but the more the better. The amount of allowance you will get depends on three factors: the amount you lock, the total amount the entire community locks in proportion to you and your Rank (but the Rank bonus is small).

Another thing though: it seems that a lot of people are buying more degen to lock it to get a bigger allowance - and its diluting the allowance for everyone - so while you may get about 100 for locking up 10k today - it may be just 70 tomorrow and so on. You have to expect your allowance to keep on dropping every day, at least for a while until things settle down.
