Great question! For me it actually makes marketing a whole lot easier in the sense that we don't need to stretch the truth or put lipstick on a pig...we built a computer (to the best of our current ability) that aims to bring out the best in humanity. The entire marketing strategy revolves around that fact and educating on the downsides of modern tech. I think the biggest challenge is overcoming the deep entrenchment current tech products have in the daily routines of everyone's lives (including mine). But here I am typing away this answer on my DC-1 :) For me, my background is in the health optimization and electrical engineering. Given my deep knowledge on health I think playing the angle of "hey we are truly the first company focused on making a healthier computer" is very powerful from a first mover advantage perspective and also provides a solution for a gaping hole in what is currently available. Optimal health allows you to be more productive + gives you a higher level of individual sovereignty.

Right now are key target audiences are 1) productivity/knowledge workers --> this would be reading/note taking focused but also more as folks realize the vast capability of the DC-1 2) health advocates 3) parents / kids Its hard to say for certain, but we have a good problem that our value prop as a product can appeal to a vast amount of people. The e-reader driven knowledge work space is proven and we have a clear display tech/refresh rate differentiator. Whilst simultaneously no tech company has ever marketed consumer electronics directly for "health" so we are excited to proliferate that over the coming months and years...it also happens to be one of the fastest growing audience bases as well! And of course, sovereignty/Decentralized thinking ties directly into health + knowledge work

Great question...I've got two for you: 1) musicians - almost all musicians perform and practice with an iPad for reading their sheet music! Staring at a flickering, bright blue light screen is not the vibe for them. We have two musicians as early adopters who exclusively use their DC-1 for this now. 2) Doctors - we have one MD using the DC-1 to read MRIs for analyzing their patients visceral fat levels (and thus metabolic health status) and another MD using it for all his patient record tracking through the Epic software system

Great question! I think if you care about refresh rate and the ability to use an e-paper screen tech for more than just reading/writing...all you need to do is demo a unit or see the stark difference between our 60fps and the e-ink readers! Something else is that our backlight also has the ability to be 100% blue light free and is flicker free...so if you want to read or do work in low light/night times its a far better option vs the e-readers currently available.

Thanks for asking a question! The biggest inspiration for our product was most certainly the Kindle and the Remarkable tablet. Our founder Anjan always loved his Kindle and how the e-ink screen didn't disrupt his thoughts or attention like a normal screen. The problem was that it was just too slow for anything outside of reading and note taking (same goes for the remarkable). A deep dive into screen tech soon followed and a few years later the first 60fps e-paper screen tech was prototyped and then this year fully released on the DC-1. A "kindle on steroids" is an easy way to describe what we've down on a hardware/display tech level, and pays homage to the inspiration behind it. Other aspects were a larger bezel size for ergonomic reasons, going with the tablet form factor for more versatility and targeting this pre-existing market of knowledge workers/readers/etc. we didn't realize is how impactful the tablet could be for parents/kids...who are in desperate need for a "healthier and less addicting iPad

Absolutely. The company culture is of utmost importance to us and is rooted in the lifestyle and belief system that we want to radiate out into the world. We are also always progressing internally and looking for extreme mission aligned new hires to help propel this further even more so. The culture and company ethos is centered around what Daylight as a company wants to enable. Optimal health, productivity, individual sovereignty, truly outside of the box thinking and a deep sense of community. These are some high level tenants that we are all striving for. Overall, everyone in the company is working incredibly hard, and realizes the opportunity of what is in front of us. To me at least, it doesn't feel like a job and I can speak for many others that feel the same.

I think that is a great idea! We fully believe in transparency + having our community build along with us. We see a great opportunity to do this on the software side, but as well on the hardware are definitely going to be sharing more insight into our display technology soon. And when we develop roadmap products (ie v2 tablet, phone, etc) that is when we can really involve the community in hardware development. Do you have any thoughts as the best way to do this or what you think works very well and is authentic?

Thanks for your support MC! The most challenging aspect of building a hardware business in my opinion is competing with the expectations that Big Tech companies like Apple and Google have set for our target audience. Ship times, pricing, customizability, etc are all factors that are very much dependent on size & scale of production. In year 1 of our business I think we have done a great job so far, but also know that we have so much room for improvement as we scale volume and our knowledge set. Big Tech has been fine tuning this for 20+ years now

For me, the most surprising aspect has been realizing how versatile a tablet form factor is! Was never a tablet user before the DC-1, but now I use it everyday for notes/reading/emails/social media and even doing this AMA! As an outdoor enthusiast, working in direct sun is also the biggest game changer for me
