This week I’m applying to a 10-week course for a Certificate in Grant Writing. If all goes well, I’ll transition into making a living as a freelance grant proposal writer + editor. Eventually I hope to work in crypto philanthropy for arts funding. The last time I worked with a nonprofit was at Oregon Research Institute as a psychology undergrad in the 1990s. My post-bac credentials are in philosophy and accounting. So I’ve got my work cut out for me. Copy editing is still my superpower, so I hope to keep my schedule flexible enough to take contract copy editing work. When I start the grant writing class in April, there will be a significant drop in the time I spend on the purple app. The /slowcore-hq channel I co-founded is in extended hibernation. I'll continue to steward the Return On Attention group chat with co-admin @trigs. We’ll keep a low profile until we find a suitable space to move it and an economic model for it. Any casters currently work as grant writers? I'd love to chat.

I hope this takes you in the directions you want to go with it beyond immediate survival needs and opens up many marvelous possibilities for you.

I appreciate that, Trish. Of all the people I've met and worked with through the purple app, you're probably the one who's most familiar with what it means for me to commit to this new direction, and why I have mixed feelings about it. The program I'm enrolling in is focused on the PNW and Oregon specifically. So it's conceivable that if I'm able to make connections with nonprofits located in Eugene, I may be able to improve my chances of moving there in the not-too-distant future. Might be a long shot, but stranger things have happened.
