a serious note: tips are sweet and fun but i get it might be a bummer if you don’t receive any

if this is you please know you sharing your thoughts and parts of yourself here really is appreciated. it matters far more than a $1 tip

Once you stopped posting on Instagram, people rarely go back and start posting actively again on their profile.  Maybe an occasional story but that seems to be it.

As IG started over-indexing on vanity, I think less and less people posted regularly and engagement accrued to more of the top 10% of accounts who put a lot of time and effort into their content.  

I want social to feel less pretentious and more authentic so that people just post and express themselves without having to think about appearances too much.  More humanity, less glitz.

I think this is one place where the "share" button isn't helpful. It creates a vanity signal, making it feel like a popularity contest.

It's like getting up after dinner at a restaurant and announcing "I'm leaving my server a $100 tip for the excellent service". 😬

Sure, it's all there on the Blockchain. Ppl who care can see who's tipping who. 

But on the social layer, let it just be what it is: a personal sign of appreciation. 

Sure, sharing is good exposure that ppl are tipping. But you know what else is good exposure? Tipping people!

I bet people who get tips are more likely to tip back if there's mutual appreciation! 

And it's less rubbed in everyone's face that isn't getting tips each week.

How does it land if I said it's great to encourage sharing and talking about it organically, but not necessary to have the automated button as part of the default workflow?

So if people organically want to express gratitude socially it comes across more personal.

I don't have a strong opinion on it, just curious how its landing for others. Personally, I see myself getting tired of seeing the automated 'share' posts after awhile. pretty fun at first, and part of the social experience of doing it. But if every tuesday just becomes a barrage of posts from everyone who shared some tips I think i'll personally find a keyword to mute or something.

It's like how everyone used to share their weekly rewards screenshots, but after a few weeks it became pretty routine so the frequency dropped considerably. Now there's just an occasional post about it and its more cute than tiresome.

And maybe it's that simple, after a few weeks ppl will stop hitting the share button cuz they're tired of it too. 🤷

I think the sharing feature is a way to make tips visible and more social 

If anyone is active here consistently for the prior week then they’re likely part of the social tipping and getting at least 1 tip 

Not perfect but i think there’s more positive than negatives about the share aspects of it
