“Ethereum as a commons” is such a useful frame for me

Anyone can contribute, anyone can see the constraints directing labor (public decision making, EIP process), anyone can use/produce the shared resources (software, blockspace, history)

That’s very different from what we’ve come to expect of our technology

I was thinking recently about how Ethereum only works because it's ~communist at the protocol level (collective ownership, consensus governance) and ~capitalist at the transaction/contract level (market dynamics, tokens, MEV, etc). Maybe something else at the L0 social level?

the collective aspect is underrated in the mainstream narrative. probably because it's overshadowed by bitcoin's narrative? 

the protocol also tries to be egalitarian so there are no supernodes, priveleged validators, etc.
