I was thinking recently about how Ethereum only works because it's ~communist at the protocol level (collective ownership, consensus governance) and ~capitalist at the transaction/contract level (market dynamics, tokens, MEV, etc). Maybe something else at the L0 social level?

I was trying to imagine what a "capitalist" consensus protocol would look like, and my first thought was basically what people naively assume PoS is: whoever has the most money gets to pick the rules. Nobody wants this, not even capitalists. The combination is what makes this possible.

the collective aspect is underrated in the mainstream narrative. probably because it's overshadowed by bitcoin's narrative? the protocol also tries to be egalitarian so there are no supernodes, priveleged validators, etc.
