What about Farcaster? Do you also run your own hub?

According to FID, you were here long before Farcaster was permission-less, and the centralization of whole system (esp. Warpcast) is quite apparent

Personally, I've been interested in new decentralized networks for a long time. It's very interesting to watch Farcaster, Bluesky, Nostr, Lens and others... I'd be quite interested in your opinion on this. 

Because given how upset you are about Urbit, I wouldn't exactly expect you to be on Farcaster, to be honest.

Mastodon is fine, cybersec people like it because it is self-hosted, however it has its fundamental flaws in terms of mass use. 

Each platform has its own specific audience:
- Mastodon: leftist FOSS people
- Nostr: ancap BTC maxis
- Farcaster/Lens: mixed ETH people
- Urbit: dreamers/non-conformist

You make a salient point. I don't use Farcaster that much, I'm mostly here because this is where the Ethereum folks are async. 

I did use Mastodon a fair amount, which is more open then Farcaster, because the cybersec people are there, but the Ethereum community isn't there.

1) Farcaster was free because it was centralized and invitation-only - now it's registration permission-less and not free. Users must pay an annual storage fee ($~5) (caststorage.com).

On Urbit you can get a free planet for example at tlon.network (centralized).

It seems very similar to me in terms of "freeness".

The big difference between Farcaster and Urbit is a matter of proposed use case and value prop.

1) farcaster is free, so no one is asking me to invest money in it to participate 

2) the core public-facing claims, as far as I'm aware, aren't contradicted by the operator docs and implementation
