I just learned that a reply from my account is worth ~$30 in Moxie, which is about 4x the federal minimum wage in the U.S. This explains the prevalence of bots and reply guys lately. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this development. On one hand, it feels harmless to airdrop free money to people simply for engaging. On the other hand, it has a distorting effect on social interactions that makes it hard to know what is genuine. I also feel kind of gross that something called a ā€œFan Auctionā€ was launched using my likeness without my consent or approval. Iā€™m not sure what the financial implications of that are, but it certainly wasnā€™t enough for me to say yes since it involves my reputation. Iā€™m not sure what to do. I donā€™t want to stop using the app and Iā€™m obviously benefiting from the system, but am deeply conscious of the precedent my behavior will set for others.
