Counterpoint, but more like nitpicking because I understand the general sentiment: Life-long relationships can be very difficult (though rewarding), and with the breakdown of social norm enforcement, sometimes the contract gets you through the tough times.

Hmm evocative. Marriage is whatever you want it to be. Higher divorce rate can be seen as a good thing....less ppl are just "trying to make it work" and are moving on seeking happiness
