personal experience is that by the time a narrative has been established, everyone has already made money and you're buying into becoming exit liquidity

if i were to give 'making money' advice, i'd say follow your gut  — buy tokens in things you like and enjoy, cast the net out wide (don't put all your eggs in one basket), always have some liquidity sidelined and only invest a value that you're ready to accept going down 50-100% overnight

ofc when you hit that 100x, you're gonna wish you put in $1000 than $30 but the reality is you would've never held that $1k to the 100x cos you cared too much about it and sold at -20% (many such cases)
