To start, AlfaFrens recommends you start with a deposit of 2,000 DEGEN. If you don’t have that, you might not want to try AlfaFrens yet. You could probably start with 1,000, but you need to be careful you don’t burn through that and hit the dreaded $DEGEN 0. More on that below.

The most important thing to understand is how @superfluid, the technology that powers AlfaFrens, works.

It is real-time crypto steaming. You do not pay or get paid monthly for anything. All of your incoming and outgoing DEGEN is continuously pro-rated by the fractional second. Watch your balance.

3 major parts to AlfaFrens:

(1) Your channel. You get 30% of subscription revenue. 70% to your stakers.

(2) Channels you subscribe to. These cost you DEGEN. 3 price points: 500 or 1,000 or 1,500. Subscribed channels earn you $alfa, which you use for staking.

(3) Channels you stake. These make you DEGEN.

(1) YOUR CHANNEL

Make a channel. Pick subscription fee. 500 or 1,000 or 1,500 DEGEN a month. I say 500 to make it most affordable, but choose what you want.

Understand that you are only guaranteed 30% of your subscription revenue. Remaining 70% gets divided among your stakers.

(2) SUBSCRIBING

Subscribe to channels and get paid every second in $alfa, which you use to stake channels to earn DEGEN.

Note: Once you’re earning $alfa, you’ll see daily amount. It’s just a metric. Some think $alfa stops if you don’t claim in 24 hours. I tested. Did not stop. Confirmed w/devs.

(3) STAKING

You can claim $alfa anytime to immediately stake. But mind the gas fees! Gas fees will chew through your balance quicker than anything.

Note: You do not have to subscribe to a channel in order to stake it.

I typically stake twice a day.

Note: For the time being, NEVER UNSTAKE. Unstaking is supposed to lock the $alfa you unstaked for 24 hours, but right now it locks your entire ability to stake for 24 hours. So don’t unstake until this is fixed.

Conventional wisdom is that your best first stake is @wake (top of the leaderboard; 1,500/month subscription + tons of stakers gets you consistent $alfa).

This time (few min ago) it was @flexasaurusrex with a DpA (DEGEN per ALFA) score of 60.

$DEGEN UP vs $DEGEN DOWN

Success on /alfafrens is about trying to balance your subscriptions against your staking so you have positive $DEGEN flow.

When flow is net negative (balance counter decreasing), you are $DEGEN DOWN. You don’t want this.

When it’s positive, you are $DEGEN UP. This is good.

BEWARE $DEGEN ZERO!!!

$DEGEN 0 is an interesting phenomenon where if your @superfluid balance on @alfafrens hits zero (assuming you have at least one subscription and one stake) all of your subscriptions are cancelled and your $alfa stops flowing.

But then what happens?

Think about it.

AFTER $DEGEN ZERO

Your $DEGEN immediately starts growing from zero because of whatever $alfa you have staked.

Assuming you want to resume all subscriptions, you gotta deposit more $DEGEN because you’re gonna have to pay subscription-grade gas and that ain’t cheap if you have lots of renewals to do.

Devs say data tools and reports are coming. Until then, take screenshots daily.

Go do it now… screenshots of Subscriptions, Stakes, Subscribers, and Stakers. This is your data. Don’t lose it in case whatever better stats system is inevitably implemented isn’t retroactive.

Staking $alfa on a channel earns you DEGEN.

This is where what I’m doing for My subscribers has value. I stake twice a day and look for best numbers. The leaderboards are not terribly accurate (not sure why; My guess is lag from how often they’re generated).

I couldn't understand staking. In other protocols it's like setting up an interest account. Where you get more of the token by putting money into a pool. 

This sounds nothing like that
