I love this insight from @arjantupan's newsletter. Twenty years of the social-media-powered web has trained everyone to accept creative work for free. But it was never free. The costs were hidden, and the value did not flow to the creators.

I was just reading a newsletter from a creator sharing the exact same thought. They make money from promoting their discord (US$1 !!!) on Instagram and is struggling to make ends meet, despite having a large following. They went on to break down their 'earnings' from IG - really sad to see. It's a really difficult process to revert in people's (I refuse to call them consumers) minds, too. The music industry seems to be waking up to it and starting to make movements, also with onchain initiatives, but all very early stages still. Would love to see more artists and creatives proposing and carving out different paths forward.

It’s quite brutal. You have to make all sorts of creative sacrifices and even then it’s so little and your livelihood is so precarious.
