i'm getting into Chekhov. any Chekhov maxis here? he's a huge influence on a few of my favorite writers. starting with "The Lady with the Dog" "It was said that a new person had appeared on the sea-front: a lady with a little dog." so pointed and plain. makes you jump right in with him.

Chekhov is great! I recently did a close reading of “The Lady with the Dog” to dissect how he puts together his stories. One of the impressive things about the story is how he gets you to care about the characters.

I read through the story 3-4 times in a weekend, taking copious notes. Goal was to answer craft questions of how Chekhov achieved the story’s effects. This often meant literally counting paragraphs, sentences, numbers of words. Digging into structure at the macro and micro levels. And so on.
