Serious question: Why do people watch podcasts on Youtube? Do you really get anything more out of watching the people talk, instead of just listening to them on a podcast app while you get other stuff done?

Yes. I didn't understand until doing a video based podcast. But now I prefer to watch podcasts on YouTube. I listen mostly but then when something really interesting comes up, I flip to watching.

I really expect we’ll see the pendulum swing back towards different mediums for different use cases + I suspect we’ll see some content creators shift to multiple mediums for different segments of their audience. I’m first a reader, then an audio listener and only if I absolutely have to will I watch a video.

I just never got in the habit of using a podcast app because it's just another app and there's already too many. Also I listen to a lot of YouTube videos as if they are podcasts without watching the video, like aquascaping content, interviews on channels like SETI and Fraser Cain / Universe Today, things like Daniel Greene fantasy news, politics talk shows like RBN, and podcasts so YouTube is a good place for that variety in one app.

I watch and listen to a lot of YouTube in general and organize a lot of my content within that eco system. Podcast come along for the ride. If it’s not on YouTube, I may not discover it.

I prefer listening almost always but some of my favorites occasionally put up documents or pictures on the screen and I like to jump to see them when I can

I usually listen to video podcasts on headphones too and rarely look at the screen while I'm doing stuff 🙃
