You lost me at "many virtues". All the nonsense about going back to gothic architecture ignores the fact that modern aesthetics are every bit as artistic, but also far more practical and efficient than pretty much anything that came before. We don't need to get back there. We're in a better place now.

I’m not saying those are the peak. I’m saying that the same people who complain that say the renaissance or the 19th century represent a cultural peak don’t offer a plan to get back to a sense of civic culture.
