Exactly, its possible to gift fan token. There is frame by @sayangel to gift fan tokens

If you can't afford to buy the fan token, the channel owner (or someone else) could send it to your for free if you turn out to be a valuable community member (e.g. in replies).

which channels use moxie fan tokens for memberships now?

1. what the WC team discovered is that despite having a $5 entry barrier, spammers still found there way in to WC (and in masse). So no it won't necessarily reduce spam. 

Note: if you're thinking about raising the entry barrier, that just results in gate keeping where only wealthy members have access.
