The simplest version of making your channel membership more open will be through a frame.

1. Pin the frame as the top cast in your channel

2. A user who isn't a member can click on the frame

3. Frame calls relevant APIs — token-gating, spam filtering, etc. — and the immediately invites any qualifying user to the channel.

4. So while there won't be a formal "request to join channel" built-in to Warpcast, the design allows for any developer to build channel gating software on day 1. 

5. This can also be used in conjunction with other moderation software (since we will now allow up to 10 moderators per channel). Use one tool for membership gating and another content moderation (if that's what you want to do), and use the other 8 moderation slots for people heavily invested in your community.

Anyone want to volunteer to make a frame for the /nouns channel that will check for ownership of nounish NFTs and invite people as members if they qualify?

I think first set of members should be nouns nft holders. Let folks vote on ten mods on 6 month terms.

Agree in principle, but as I understand it, moderators can only Hide casts, not Allow casts. So if we set it to members only, then only nouns holders will be able to post an reply, period. My suggestion was maybe to cast a wider net for that "allowed to post" group, and then we could implement your rotating mod idea to weed out spam from that group (which should be minimal if we cast the net properly.)

i suggested the moderator stuff so they are in charge of high quality invites. so you start with highest signal group (nouns nft members) and then allow the chosen 10 mods to continue to expand the member group.
