Civil War Movie · 2024 · ★½☆☆☆ I thought Civil War was complete ass. An entire movie optimized for having cool shock-value stills without anything else of merit There are some cool questions raised around journalistic integrity and stuff like that. But ultimately pretty boring and flat IMO https://nook.social/content/5f3d0245-ff59-493a-b479-06bb9aaa2692

I liked it. Someone imagining — in a non-fanctastical way — what it would be like to see the familiar places (malls, gas stations, hiking trails) turn into war zones was interesting to me. It made you confront the truth that America is not “by nature” safe and organized. I also like the theme of how you have to lose your humanity to become great at some types of art (in addition to the journalism questions, I wondered if Alex Garland felt at all like this girl when he became a film director. Putting moments over people.)

Yeah IMO that first part was more just the stills and scenes and less so the actual movie/plot/characters etc which i didn’t feel like they added much Agree on the last point tho, the whole journalistic integrity question
