Depending on level of abstraction you’re talking, Whitehead’s quip that “all philosophy is footnotes to Plato” is hard to escape. To me,the developments with metaphysical consequence are What is God, given fact of evolution? (Nietzsche) What is human intellect, given the fact of reasoning of machines? (TBD)

Plato is hard to escape, I agree. Do you see "What is human intellect...>?" as different from "what does it mean to be human?"? Nietzsche's "God in light of evolution" question has been answered within the Judeo-Christian religious community, though its uniform adoption within those communities is very uneven.
