How do you think this fits into today’s world where everything we do is always being recorded and brought back up?

Great question. 

I think it becomes important to accept that some people will believe a different story of you than you know about yourself and it’s an extra courage and willpower we must have to trust ourself. (While also listening to others and being honest)

“Good faith” criticism seems useful. People who are being honest and — even better — people who want you to know the truth so you can improve. 

People who criticize you only to discourage you from taking action are ungenerous and should be ignored.

This is almost similar to a conversation I had earlier on this space today,I need to hear your thoughts on this
