They absolutely aren't - pre-WWII Germany was dealing with crushing war reparations from WWI and hyperinflation that devastated its economy in the 1920s, whereas the US economy has seen some of the strongest gains in a long time. Those who are affected by the real economic crisis, the fact that wage growth hasn't kept pace with productivity gains and the cost of living increases, are not the ones profiting from the above.
