Ukrainian Incursion into Kursk: In early August, Ukrainian forces launched a bold incursion into Russia's Kursk Oblast, marking the most extensive cross-border attack of the war. Ukrainian troops advanced approximately 10 kilometers into Russian territory, taking control of several settlements in Sudzhansky District (Wikipedia) (The Independent). Russia responded by deploying air and artillery forces and declared states of emergency in Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk (Wikipedia). Satellite images reveal that Russia has been digging trenches as far as 75 kilometers from the Ukrainian border to slow the advance (The Independent).
