Had a very sobering conversation with my kids tonight about the state of U.S. politics. It’s unsettling to think this is the world they’ve grown up in - where division, anger, and uncertainty seem to dominate the headlines. I tried to stress importance of staying informed, being kind, and working toward positive change, no matter how challenging it feels. But man, does it feel challenging! Has anyone else had similar conversations with their pre-teen/ teenagers? Any tips or talking points?

I know that by making space to have these discussions and to listen to your kids concerns you're parenting beyond 80% of us. As someone who grew up without it, I aspire to create that space for my kids whenever anxiety/uncertainty seems to be growing.

Yeah, I similarly grew up in a house with the mentality of “you’re a kid, what do you have to be stressed about?” I never want my kids to feel like they can’t talk to me about their concerns.
