this is backwards logic. The argument is that traditional/existing groups are worried about immigrants changing their culture. All these groups moved to these places, so if anything it’s actually a counterpoint

my understanding was that it is an argument against those warning that  immigration will harm local culture as e.g. gay culture in SF can thrive without being in the majority. Are you responding to this?

the groups in this example gathered or were forced to a place and then either are completely separate (hasidim) or have strongly impacted the existing culture of their surroundings. From my read, this author was trying to make the opposite point
