My month long visit to the US is coming to an end. Sina and Heather from zeitgeist.xyz invited me here so that I could start to build a decentralized Hacker News Today, in Brooklyn, we had the demo day and so here's a thread of my slides (3min talk, recording later). I'm a writer and freelancer (dev), so ever since landing a viral post in HN, I noticed that potential customers reach out via emails for new jobs (contracting). Over the last years, whenever I needed to acquire more customers, I published a new post and hence had a pretty steady income. https://i.imgur.com/snLTiYV.jpg

But becoming reliant on HN, I've noticed that their community isn't a great fit as my audience. They hate crypto devs! And furthermore, their mods are biased too! E.g. when they renamed my spicily titled post "The AI Crowd is Mad" to milque-toast "LLM discourse needs more nuance." https://i.imgur.com/6o0O4PV.png

Contrarily, by using Farcaster during my visit, I met tons of cool people (e.g. at ETHDenver). And FC's architecture inspired me. I though: "Using Patricia Merkle Tries for Set Reconciliation? That could allow me to build a credible neutral HN!" https://i.imgur.com/DohbwwO.jpg
