It's been sooo much fun watching the artists and their process. Very curious to see a time lapse of the creation. What is the meta for keeping your contribution from being painted over? Whoever adds last stays? Save all your pixels for the final hour? Negotiating in chat?

The meta is always changing but it bends towards this: everything gets painted over, but the big brushes will rescue some of them by redrawing. They will let swipes and repetitions get replaced but will fish out something original and interesting if they spot it.

The final hour is often the most chaotic, because people try to cram in as much as they can to make it into the canvas. There is a 20 minute period at the end where a few brushes do their best to tidy up but timezones and schedules make that inconsistent.
